More Than Passages: Choosing the Right Door Color

For instant curb appeal, think about the front door.  But, forget about your back and interior doors. This post addresses how to spruce up all of your entryways.

Sprucing up the entry way can be a very easy and low cost job if you do some basic up-front planning.  One of the easiest and quickest ways to refresh a door is to simply change the color. And, if you so happen to still like the current color of your door, it may be time to still refresh it with a new coat. Nothing is more appealing than the feeling of freshness.

Colors generate emotions...from cheerful, to calming to somber.  There's a reason Hollywood studios have a green room. Green calms the nerves.  Bright hues are energetic.  Cool hues are calming.

Knowing why certain colors work well with others is key to selecting the perfect shade for your doors.  The right color can give your home a facelift and bring out the personality of a room.Keep in mind that their is a basic logic to selecting a color.  You can't just pick a color you like.  You may end up with your home looking color blind.  Using a color wheel is a good first place to start.

If you're choosing a color for your exterior doors, take a look around and play off nearby plantings. Ask yourself a few questions.  Does your home receive a lot of sun or more shade?  Do you want the change to be subtle or impactful?

If planning to change the color of an interior door, determine how you want to present the room beyond.

Be Artistic.

Create Drama.

Be Exotic.

Regardless of the color you choose, be sure to use a quality paint.  Quality paints contain better pigments and create better results.  The extra plus, is that they also last longer.

Now, go have fun!
