More Than Passages: Style and Personality on the Outside

I love architecture.  When my husband and I travel, we always try to spend some time just looking around a historic district and creating our own back stories of who once lived there or why a building may have been built.  The historical truth is never as much  fun as what we've made up, but it passes the time and we still like it.

One of the things we like to look at are the various doors to the homes and buildings.  They exude personality.  So, I decided it would make a good theme for my next blog article.

Exterior doors may be the first way you introduce your home to visitors and passers by.   In short, entry doors are the first hand shake or "How do you do?"  The example below, says come on in and have a glass of sherry, why don't ya.

The lime green door below  says, we're cool, hip and friendly.  Wanna come in and talk about your favorite artist?

One of the immediate things you may notice first is the color of the doors.  Color speaks volumes.
The door below says, "Look at me and come on in!".  In Feng Shui, a red door means "Welcome".

On the flip side, blue doors are calming and represent trustworthiness, stability, abundance and loyalty.  They can be calming and exude positive energy.  That same abundance is represented in the color purple.  On a slightly different slant, it is often taken further and associated with wealth and royalty.  I love this door, because it includes both colors.  In my head, I see swaths of colorful fabrics inside and can smell the jasmine tea.

Hey, it could be completely contemporary with stark white furnishings on the inside, but it's MY story.  Feel free to make up your own.
So, the next time you're out and about, look around at the doors surrounding you.  What stories can you come up with?
